What is Pain?

Pain ManagementPain is your body telling you something’s wrong.

Pain is a physiological response of our body communicating with our mind to let us know that something isn’t right, or is damaging to our body. This feeling in turn causes us to be motivated to stop whatever is causing the pain. Most things that cause pain such as a cut or bruise will heal and the pain goes away, but some pain persists and can be a sign of longer lasting damage to our body.

One of the most common reasons people see a physician is due to pain. Pain can be caused by a variety of factors including an injury, nervous system impairments, muscle or skeletal issues, stress and psychological issues among other sources. People are often prescribed medications that cause them to not notice the pain, which can be helpful for quick relief, but sometimes do not actually aid in improving the cause of the pain and can also cause negative side effects. Many natural approaches to pain management include chiropractic care, acupuncture, corrective exercise, hypnosis, and massage. The effectiveness of these treatments depends on the individual and their unique condition.

If you are experiencing pain, your body is giving you a warning, so listen and stop whatever is causing the pain and seek treatment from a qualified professional.
